Terms
The rules for using this website, renting a power bank, and booking event hire or advertising with us.
About these terms
These terms apply between you and OBLit whenever you use this website or any of our services. By renting a power bank or booking with us, you agree to them.
Nothing here takes away rights you have under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act. Where anything in these terms conflicts with a right the law gives you, the law wins.
Using this website
You may use this site to find out about our services, contact us, and rent a power bank. Please do not attempt to interfere with the site, access parts of it you are not meant to reach, or use it to send anything unlawful.
The OBLit name, logo and the content on this site belong to us. You are welcome to link to it. Please do not copy it for your own commercial use without asking.
Renting a power bank
A rental starts when the station releases a power bank to you and ends when you return it to a slot and receive confirmation. You are responsible for the unit for that whole period.
Current pricing:
- One hour: R150
- Two hours: R250
- Refundable deposit: R500
You must be able to receive an SMS on the number you give us, because that is how we verify the rental and how we reach you about it. Please give us a number that is actually yours.
The power bank stays our property throughout. You may not sell it, lend it for payment, open it, or modify it.
The deposit
The R500 deposit is not a charge. It is held while you have the power bank and released when you return it.
Depending on your bank, a released deposit can take a few working days to appear back in your account. That delay sits with your bank rather than with us.
Return confirmation matters. Push the unit firmly into a free slot and wait for the confirmation message. If you walk away without it, the rental may still be open and the deposit still held.
Late and unreturned units
We send a reminder before your rental time runs out. If the power bank is not returned, the rental closes and the deposit is retained to cover the unit. In other words: the most a missed return costs you is the deposit.
If you return a unit after that point, contact us. We will look at it sensibly rather than mechanically.
Damage and faults
Normal wear is expected and is not charged for. Where a unit comes back with damage beyond normal use — water damage, a broken casing, cut cables — we may retain the deposit to cover the replacement.
If a power bank does not work properly, that is on us, not you. Return it and tell us. You will not be charged for a faulty unit, and we will sort out the rental.
Please charge only devices the built-in cables are designed for. We are not responsible for damage caused by using the unit in a way it is not meant for.
Payments and refunds
Payments are processed by Payfast. Your card details go to them directly and never reach our systems.
Rental fees pay for time you booked, so they are not generally refundable once the rental has started. Where something goes wrong on our side — a faulty unit, a station that will not release, a rental you were charged for but never received — contact us and we will put it right.
Event hire
Event bookings are confirmed by a written quote, which sets out the stations, stock, dates and price for that event. The quote and these terms together form the agreement.
- Quoted prices assume reasonable access to the venue for delivery, setup and collection
- Equipment stays our property throughout and must be accessible for collection as agreed
- You are responsible for the equipment's safety on site during the event, other than fair wear
- Cancellation terms are set out in your quote — tell us as early as you can, since we may have turned down other work for the date
Advertising
Advertising on station screens is booked per campaign, per venue and per time slot, as set out in your booking.
We may decline or remove content that is unlawful, misleading, or unsuitable for a public venue where children may be present, or that a venue objects to. Where we do, we will tell you why and deal with the unused portion of your booking fairly.
Our liability
We take reasonable care to keep stations stocked, working and available. We cannot promise that a particular station will always have a unit free, or that a venue will always be open.
We are responsible for loss we cause through our own failure to take reasonable care. We are not responsible for indirect losses — a missed booking, a missed connection, lost business — arising from a station being unavailable.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Governing law
These terms are governed by South African law, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
If something has gone wrong, please talk to us first. Most things are quicker to fix directly than formally.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version published here when you rent or book is the one that applies to that rental or booking. The date at the top tells you when this version was published.
