The deposit is a deposit
It is held, not charged, and it comes back when the power bank does. The most a missed return can cost you is the deposit itself — there is no escalating fee waiting behind it.
About us
OBLit is a South African smart connectivity platform combining portable power bank rentals, digital advertising and event technology to keep people powered, connected and safe. From events and activations to high-traffic venues, we make charging simple, convenient and accessible - so a low battery never has to interrupt the moment.
A phone stopped being just a phone a long time ago. It is the ticket, the wallet, the map, the way home and the way to reach anybody. When it dies at an event or in a venue, the evening does not carry on as normal — it stops.
The old answer was to find a plug and stand next to it. That means giving up your seat, watching your phone across a room, and hoping somebody brought the right cable. It is a bad answer, and everybody has lived it.
OBLit is the other answer. Scan a station, take a charged power bank with you, carry on with your night, and put it back in any station when you are done.
We put self-service charging stations where people already stop — venue entrances, bars, conference foyers, festival hubs — and we keep them stocked, charged and monitored. Stations come in different sizes, and every one of them reports its stock back to us in real time — so an empty station is something we already know about rather than something you discover.
Alongside the rentals, we hire stations out for events, and we run advertising on the screens that sit on top of them. Venues host stations at no cost to themselves. All four are here.
The kit
Three cables are built into the body — Micro, Type-C and Lightning — so it charges whatever phone somebody happens to be holding. Nothing to carry, nothing to lose, no borrowing a cable from a stranger.
How we work
Most of the annoyance in rental services comes from the small print. We would rather not have any that needs defending.
It is held, not charged, and it comes back when the power bank does. The most a missed return can cost you is the deposit itself — there is no escalating fee waiting behind it.
Everything runs in your phone browser, starting from the QR code on the station. Nobody should have to install software and create a login while their battery is on 3%.
One hour or two, shown before you pay, with the deposit stated separately. No surge pricing, no per-minute meter running while you try to find a station.
If a unit does not work or a station will not release, that is our problem to fix. You will not be charged for a faulty power bank or a rental you never received.
Where we are
We are based in Sea Point, Cape Town, 8005, and we place stations at venues and events across South Africa.
If you run a venue and want a station, or you are organising an event somewhere we are not yet, tell us. Coverage grows where there is a reason for it.
