One hour
R150
Enough to get a phone from flat to usable and back out the door.
The rental
No app. No cables. No waiting around. Simply scan the QR code, verify your details, choose your rental, pay securely and collect your power bank. Take it with you, stay connected, and return it to an OBLit station when you’re done.
Start to finish
Stations sit where people wait: venue entrances, bars, conference foyers, festival hubs. Each one has a name and a code on the front, and a lit OBLit panel that is hard to miss once you know the shape.
Not sure where the nearest one is? The rental page can find it for you.
Point your phone camera at the code on the station. It opens the rental page in your browser, with the station already chosen. There is nothing to download and no account to create first.
Camera not cooperating? Open oblit.co.za/rent and pick the station from the list instead.
We send a one-time code by SMS and you type it back in. This is how we know the rental belongs to you, and how we reach you when your time is nearly up.
The number is used for the rental and for support. Nothing else.
One hour at R150, or two hours at R250. Pick the shorter one if you are not sure — most people only need enough charge to get through the rest of the evening.
Both options include the cables. You do not need to bring your own.
Checkout is handled by Payfast, which takes card, Instant EFT, SnapScan and Zapper. A R500 deposit is held at the same time and released when the power bank goes back.
Your card details go to Payfast directly. They never touch OBLit systems.
The station unlocks a slot and releases a charged unit. Three cables are built into the body — Micro, Type-C and Lightning — so it works with whatever phone you are carrying.
6000mAh, which is roughly a full charge for most phones.
It is small enough to hold against your phone or drop in a pocket. Charge while you walk, queue, dance or travel. We message you before your time runs out.
The little green lights on the side show how much charge is left.
Push it firmly into any free slot, at the station you took it from or a different one entirely. Wait for the confirmation message before you walk away — that is what closes the rental and releases your deposit.
Tuck the cables back into their channels so the next person gets a tidy unit.
What it costs
The deposit is not a fee. It comes back when the power bank does.

Good to know
A phone with a camera, a working cellphone number for the code, and a way to pay. That is it — no app, no account beforehand, no ID.
We send a reminder before your time is up. If the power bank is not returned, the rental closes automatically and the deposit covers the unit — so a missed return costs you the deposit, not more.
Try a different slot first, and make sure the cables are tucked in. If nothing works, WhatsApp us with the station name from the front panel and we will close the rental from our side.
Every station reports its stock to us in real time, so an empty one is usually already on our list. The rental page shows how many power banks each station has right now, so the nearest alternative is a tap away.
